An introduction to the world of dye plants, the origin of plant colours and the first dyeing experiments.

Observe different dye plants and discover some of the colours they can produce. Carry out a small plant extraction and experiment with dyeing two pre-prepared fabric samples and paper.

At the end, you will build your first botanical colour sampler.

Briefly discover the history of plant dyeing and the methodology used. Learn to dye different types of fibre, compare results and experiment with several dye plants.

At the end, you will create a sampler with different fibres, plants and shades.

I want to develop my autonomy — 2 days

Learn to select and prepare fibres for dyeing, recognise the main families of dye plants and understand the history and techniques associated with plant colour.

Throughout the workshop, explore plants with different colour intensities, prepare dye baths and experiment with creating different shades using different plants, concentrations, modifiers and successive baths. Introduction to dyeing with clays and earth.
